Whitman Career Fair
When beginning my program at Whitman, I admittedly was not very well versed when it came to knowing much about the proper approach and preparation needed for my job search. While it has been overwhelming at times, the career center has been a huge help. My first week of the semester I met with Jackie Popkess of the Career Center, and we discussed my resume in-depth, and proceeded to make changes. The meeting was great as Jackie gave me constructive criticism, explaining what employers were looking for, and then telling me how and why the adjustments to my resume would help going forward. In addition to my meeting with Jackie, I’ve also attended several of the Career Center’s workshops throughout the semester. I worked with members of the Career Center and continuously built my skills regarding my job search. My favorite was a seminar about how to best make and maximize a LinkedIn profile.
Along with the various workshops was the Whitman Career Fair. I was excited as I knew there would be a significant number of employers present, and it was a great opportunity to gather more information. I felt prepared and eager to explore potential career opportunities. It was a great experience as I was able to meet and speak with companies such as JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, NBC Studio’s, and BAE Systems. The representatives from all the companies present were very helpful. They gave me information regarding different career opportunities within their company, and also steps to take to pursue those opportunities.
As I excitedly begin the next phase of my job search, I can confidently say that I feel prepared and ready. The workshops, Career Fair, and discussions with the Career Center team have given me a great set of tools to use at my disposal while I’m in search of my first full time job.
